At The Fair
August 7 – September 12, 2015
Welcome to the Fair! A playground for the fearless in training, games of skill and accuracy, rides that thrill. Where victory is a giant plush toy and the right to brag comes after the ride.
These expressive and painterly works of the Mid-Way and the people in them capture the fun of taking a chance and wanting to test your bravery. These are the faces of carnival travelers, stuffed prize winners, and the acceptors of a dare. The Fair is an American experience that unites us all. It is a place where we prove ourselves and face our fears. These twilight paintings are the memory of this shared experience.
Damon Thompson has used the Ferris wheel and roller coaster as a motif in his landscapes and portraits for over fifteen years. He likes the challenge of painting the architectural rides. Damon, who lives in Louisville with his wife and three children, recently completed a Gallopalooza horse for Down One Bourbon Bar. He is also a major contributor to The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, where he carves realistic images on pumpkins.
